Water Damage Cleanup and Drying in Worthington, Ohio
iDry Columbus is an owner-run, licensed and insured company in Columbus that sends IICRC-trained technicians to Worthington homes. The first job is getting standing water out and finding out how far the rest has traveled.
Columbus's water damage restoration team. Serving Clintonville, Upper Arlington, Westerville, Dublin, Worthington, Hilliard, and all of Franklin County for 30 years. Call 614-810-0000 — we dispatch in 60 minutes.
Do you need a restoration crew, or just a fan?
Not every spill needs us, and we would rather tell you that up front.
A small clean-water spill, under about ten square feet on a sealed hard floor and wiped up within a few hours, is a towel-and-fan job. Run a fan and a dehumidifier for a day and watch for cupping or a musty smell.
It becomes restoration work when water soaks into the building itself. Water wicks up drywall, swells subfloor and reaches framing well beyond the wet spot you can see on the floor.
Call when materials got wet
Drywall, trim, subfloor or hardwood took on water, or the hardwood has started to cup.
Call when the water was dirty
It came from a drain, a failed sump or outside. That water carries contamination and is handled differently than clean water.
Call when it sat
The water was there longer than 24 hours, or a finished basement is involved. Mold can begin in 24 to 48 hours, per EPA guidance.
How we dry a water-damaged house, step by step
The job runs in the same order every time, because each step decides how well the next one works.
Everything is documented as we go. Photos, moisture logs and the scope of work go to your insurance adjuster.
Get the standing water out
Industrial pumps and truck-mounted extractors pull up the water first. Every gallon removed now is a gallon the drying equipment does not have to chase later.
Map where the water went
Thermal imaging cameras and calibrated moisture meters find wet spots inside walls, ceilings and under floors, so we are measuring instead of guessing.
Remove only what cannot be dried
Wet carpet pad, swollen particleboard and drywall above the wick line come out. Anything that can be dried stays, and everything removed is photographed for your claim.
Dry and check daily
Air movers and dehumidifiers run around the clock. A technician comes back every 24 hours to take readings and adjust the equipment until the materials reach dry standard.
What the moisture readings tell you
The meter readings decide when the drying is finished, not how the room looks.
Wood that feels dry can still be wet inside. Carpet can feel dry while the pad under it is soaked. That is why we take readings on every affected surface instead of trusting our hands.
The target is wood under 16% moisture content, with indoor humidity holding below 60%. As an example of how far off a surface can be, one tack strip behind a pulled baseboard read 42.8%. The equipment stays until the readings show the target has been reached.
Why the readings go to your adjuster
A daily log shows how wet things started and when they reached dry standard. It is the record that supports the drying charges on a claim.
What decides the cost
The price depends on how much water got loose, how long it sat and what it reached. Nobody can give you an honest number before seeing the damage.
For Columbus-area jobs, a minor single-room job with extraction and drying only runs about $1,500 to $4,000 or more. A moderate multi-room job with a wet subfloor runs about $4,000 to $8,000 or more. Major multi-floor or late-discovered damage runs about $8,000 to $15,000 or more. Where a home in Worthington lands depends on what the inspection finds.
Most homeowner policies cover damage that was sudden and accidental, like a burst pipe or a failed appliance. Flooding, groundwater and leaks that were known and ignored are usually not covered. Your policy wording decides it.
Clean or contaminated water
Sewage-category water can double the cost of a clean-water job. Porous materials have to come out and be sanitized instead of just dried.
How long before the call
Damage found after a day or more can cost three to five times as much. The water keeps wicking, and mold work can get added to the drying.
What the water reached
Drywall is the cheaper fix. Cupped hardwood, saturated subfloor and finished basements with carpet, trim and built-ins add the most.
What to do while the crew is on the way
A few steps in the first hour limit the damage and keep you safe.
If a pipe burst, shut off the main water supply. Move valuables off wet floors and open cabinet doors so air can move.
Stay away from outlets and anything electrical near the water. Do not use a household vacuum on standing water, because it is not built for it and it is a shock risk. When the crew arrives, the extraction and drying equipment comes in the same truck, and work starts right away.
Our finished work in Worthington
This Worthington job was mold remediation in a crawlspace where moisture had been sitting, which is the kind of problem that follows water left in the wrong place too long.

Questions Worthington homeowners ask about water damage
How fast can someone get to my house?
The phone is answered 24/7. For a water emergency in Worthington, a crew can usually be at your door in about an hour. The truck carries the extraction and drying equipment, so there is no wait for a second crew.
Is water extraction the same as restoration?
No. Extraction is the first step, pulling out the standing water. Restoration also covers mapping hidden moisture, structural drying, daily readings and the paperwork for your insurance.
How long does the drying take?
The drying usually takes 3 to 5 days, depending on how much got wet and what materials are involved. Extraction happens on the first day. We pick up the equipment when the readings say the materials are dry, not when the room looks dry.
Will my insurance pay for it?
Usually, if the damage was sudden and accidental, such as a burst pipe or appliance failure. Flooding, groundwater and long-ignored leaks are usually excluded, and your policy has the final say. We document the job from the start so your adjuster has what they need.
Can I dry it out myself with rented fans?
For a small spill on a sealed floor, yes. Once water is inside walls or under flooring, rented fans do not reach the cavities, and towels miss what a thermal camera finds. Moisture left in those spots is how a drying job turns into a mold job.
